I do a lot of work for Paul Heathcote at his restaurant in Clithero and after performing at a charity event one Sunday afternoon for the NSPCC with Paul Dobie, Paul Heathcote asked if we would play at Fashion Kicks. We both agreed and thought nothing of it.
It wasn't till two days before the gig that I did a little research about Fashion Kicks and looked at the line-up. It was to be hosted at LCC, Old Trafford, and was Shay Given and his wife Jane's Charity event in assosiation with Selfridges.
"On a fantastic night of great food, fun and entertainment, we can proudly say that Fashion Kicks 2011 raised over £145,000 for charity – helping us smashing the £1 million target we had set ourselves to reach this year.
All the money donated from this year’s event, which is the fifth in Fashion Kicks history, goes to three charitable causes – the main benefactor being Macmillan Cancer Support, along with Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in Stockport and the Adopt a School project.
We are so grateful to everyone who attended on the night to support the event. There were a lot of familiar faces in the audience, with stars of Westlife, Coronation Street and the world of football out in force."
After a sumptuous champagne reception, with canapés supplied by the Academy of Culinary Arts, the main show kicked off with a spectacular Selfridges’ fashion show. The show was ably assisted by supermodel Lily Cole and the Manchester City squad, who toasted their FA Cup victory by showing off their fancy footwork on the catwalk. The biggest cheer of the night went up when the players brought out the evening’s surprise special guest – the FA Cup trophy itself. It was strange to see all the players backstage nervous about the catwalk show. There was a little impromptu performance on Paul's acoustic guitar by, Pablo one of the City players. The FA Cup was in the dressing room too.
This was followed by a lavish dinner created by some of Britain’s top best chefs, including celebrity chefs and restaurateurs Paul Heathcote, Nigel Haworth, Terry Laybourne and The Ritz’s John Williams with Paul and myself to provide the music.
Former world champion snooker player Dennis Taylor and Michelin-starred chef Paul Heathcote then hosted the charity auction, which featured some incredible prizes such as a Silverstone F1 experience, a signed guitar by Noel Gallagher and a luxury yacht holiday in the Greek Islands. To round off the night, X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke had the audience up on their feet and dancing, then it was time for the aftershow VIP party upstairs.
We played from about 2 till 4am- quite a late one. The place was bouncing with everyone dancing, it was then that Westlife got up and sang with us. I think it was The Feelin by Black Eyed Peas.
We've since been asked to play at next years show and another one of Shay and Janes charity events in October.
Thats Paul and me looking less than fresh after a 2 hour stint at 4.30 in the morning. Shane and Nicky look fresh as a daisy!!!
Thanks to Paul Heathcote and Shay Given, Fashion Kicks 2011
Looking forward to the next one.
